According to PCrisk, Rook is ransomware (an updated variant of Babuk) that prevents victims from accessing/opening files by encrypting them. It also modifies filenames and creates a text file/ransom note ("HowToRestoreYourFiles.txt"). Rook renames files by appending the ".Rook" extension.
